Professional Supervisor

Training Course

for Registered Psychotherapists

CRPO-Aligned. Experiential. Practice-Based.

Supervision in psychotherapy is where the student becomes a practitioner.

Supervision training is where the practitioner becomes the teacher.

Clinical supervision is becoming an increasingly important part of practice for Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario.

Yet many existing trainings focus on agency or institutional contexts, while a large proportion of RPs practice in private or independent settings.

This training is designed specifically to address that gap.

Clinical supervision is more than a set of techniques—it is a relational, ethical, and professional responsibility that develops over time through experience, reflection, and practice.

This 16-session supervision training is designed for Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario who want to build a grounded, practice-ready approach to supervision. The program combines structured teaching with experiential learning, including two supervised practice sessions, group-based case work, and ongoing opportunities for reflection and integration.

Participants are guided through all core aspects of supervision, including:

  • the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor
  • the supervisory relationship, including power dynamics and boundaries
  • supervision models, structure, and contracts
  • formats, methods, and tools
  • multicultural and contextual awareness
  • ethical decision-making and legal responsibilities
  • evaluation and working with challenging supervisees
  • crisis management and use of self (SEUS)
  • building and sustaining a supervision practice

This training follows a developmental sequence of learning, practice, reflection, and re-application, supporting participants in building both competence and confidence over time.

The structure of the program is intentionally developmental. Participants are first introduced to the foundations of supervision and begin applying their learning in practice. Partway through the training, there is space for integration and reflection, allowing participants to consolidate their understanding and clarify their approach. A second round of practice then supports the application of this learning in a more grounded and confident way.

The training is explicitly aligned with the requirements and context of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, while also addressing the realities of contemporary practice—particularly supervision in private practice and contractor-based settings, which are often underrepresented in traditional training programs.

A guiding focus of the program is the development of your own philosophy of supervision. Rather than teaching a single model, the course supports you in integrating your theoretical orientation, values, and professional experience into a coherent and authentic supervisory approach.

Throughout the training, there is a strong emphasis on:

  • experiential learning grounded in real supervisory situations
  • the use of self  (SEUS) in supervision, including relational and systemic dynamics
  • balancing support with accountability
  • developing supervisees toward autonomy and self-supervision

The final phase of the program focuses on applying your learning to complex case scenarios and preparing to bring supervision into your professional work. This includes practical considerations such as structure, sustainability, and positioning your supervision practice.

This program is designed not only to teach supervision, but to support you in becoming a supervisor—one who can think clearly, respond flexibly, and carry the responsibility of the role with confidence and integrity.

Sabine Cox, RP, is highly qualified and brings a wealth of knowledge to her supervision training.  She clearly and concisely explained the requirements and regulatory framework for supervisors within the CRPO, making complex information easy to understand.

The course included experiential learning and opportunities to practice working in the role of supervisor, which helped ground the material in real clinical contexts.  I found the training to be practical, well structured, and very informative and would highly recommend it to clinicians interested in becoming a supervisor.
